On October 19, Dr. Gibson contributed to a panel discussion on enhancing investment in rural and northern communities at the Invest in our Communities, Our Future meeting in Plum Point, Newfoundland. Dr. Gibson shared research on community-based collective endowments that communities can utilize to support their local priorities. The presentation pulled on research related to philanthropy, inter-generational wealth transfers, and the recent State of Rural Canada report. The panel also included comments from Ken Carter (Office of Engagement, Grenfell Campus, Memorial University) and Kelly Vodden (Environmental Policy Institute, Grenfell Campus, Memorial University).
The Invest in our Communities, Our Future meeting was hosted by the Nortip Community Business Development Corporation. The meeting brought together community and political leaders from across the Northern Peninsula region in Newfoundland. The meeting highlighted the need for rural and northern communities to work together.
